Screen copies can tolerate less image data
A PDF viewed on phones and ordinary monitors often does not need the same image resolution as a professional print master. Reducing image resolution can therefore save substantial space in scan-heavy documents.

Print exposes quality loss
Printers can reveal soft text, blocky photographs and banding that were less obvious on a laptop. If a document may be printed, test a representative page before replacing the source with a compressed copy.

Keep purpose-specific versions
